Today's Red Flags: Identifying and Responding to Credentialing Complexities
Wednesday, February 1, 2023, 12 p.m. CST
Presented by Kathy Matzka, CPMSM, CPCS, FMSP
One of the most important aspects of the credentialing process is the evaluation of information received when verifying physician and clinician credentials. Identifying information that indicates a problem may exist and need to be addressed—also known as red flags—adds complexity to the process. Some red flags are easily identified while others are more subtle. The trend toward employment of practitioners has made some of these issues harder to evaluate. This Webinar will discuss how to identify potential red flags, follow up on the issues, and document appropriately the follow-up work.

Medical Group Peer Review: Legal Issues and Possible Protections
October 5, 2022
Presented by Elizabeth A. (Libby) Snelson, Esq., President, Legal Counsel for the Medical Staff, PLLC
Peer review is a key aspect of professionalism in medicine, promoting quality improvement through analysis and discussion of clinical problems. Hospital medical staffs have long been the primary organ for the peer review process. But as medical groups increasingly provide more complicated care in greater volume, as more physicians practice exclusively outpatient medicine, and as third-party payers demand quality improvement processes, medical groups need to conduct peer review in-house. Legal concerns about antitrust liability, liability for negative reviews and disciplining physicians, with fairness for all involved, can be mitigated by processes that maximize federal and state legal protections.
